Clopen Compressor
Description
The Clopen Compressor is a studio-grade optical compressor that combines classic LA-2A style gain reduction using an NSL-32 optocoupler with advanced sidechain detection. The all-analog signal path utilizes fully discrete transistor circuit design to maintain Class A amplification, featuring a transformer-isolated sidechain that provides highly precise full wave rectification. By integrating switchable high-pass and low-pass detection filters with a dry signal blend, it provides exceptional control over dynamics without sacrificing original transients or pick attack. The Clopen Compressor also uses a unique combination of feed-forward and feedback style compression filtering that keeps the effect natural and warm sounding without pumping or other artifacts. It is called the "Clopen" Compressor because the compression can close or open on different frequencies according to user preference. There are 9 possible EQ combinations. Using these combinations with different SENSITIVITY knob settings allow the EQ to be dynamic and sensitive to live individual playing styles, so your bass, treble, and mid frequency content is there when you want it, and recedes when you don't.
The ON indicator LED light is in series with the optocoupler for instantaneous effect intensity tracking, because compression (especially studio grade "transparent" compression) can be hard to hear sometimes.
SENSITIVITY:
Controls the threshold of the gain reduction by adjusting the signal amplitude entering the compression filter. It also influences the attack.HPF (High Pass Filter):
Selects between 15Hz, 330Hz, and 1kHz settings to filter low-end information out of the compression filter, thus allowing it to be heard at the output.LPF (Low Pass Filter):
Selects between 500Hz, 5kHz, and 19kHz settings to determine the high-frequency sensitivity of the gain reduction.RELEASE:
Sets the sidechain discharge time constant to .075s, .5s, or 1s to control the recovery rate of the optocoupler.BLEND:
Blends the buffered dry signal with the compressed signal path for parallel processing. It also effects the perceived attack, blending in more dry signal to hear more transients and tails.MASTER:
Adjusts the final output level of the discrete makeup gain stage.
